Painted Bunting



Brian was in the barn the other evening and spotted a couple of painted buntings. He was able to come get me in time to get a few pictures of one that was confused by the window in the barn room.
Painted buntings are really pretty. The males (like the one in these pictures) are brightly colored - blue, green, and red. The females are mostly yellow and green and a little duller than the males. They nest here in the summers and then fly south to Mexico/Panama in the winter. Sorry the pictures aren't that great - the sun was shining in from behind and that never quite works right. Maybe we'll see some more! :)
